I think that the "no tax" angle is probably the biggest draw for starting a one-person corp, especially for a new player. The more ISK one can accumulate the better. Aside from that, I think it's definitely a good idea to get some hands-on by join...

My own view is that the Incarna (WiS) feature helps add an extra layer of immersion to the game. While I love the ship-based aesthetic of EVE, having a highly detailed avatar that I can actually interact with as opposed to a simple 2D chatbox imag...
